Review: Streamlight Sidewinder
I admit it, I am a gear geek. No matter how much I preach about skills, I still love gadgets, gizmos, and whatsihoozits. When it comes to flashlights, I have loved them since I was a kid. The Streamlight Sidewinder Tactical Flashlight is the most interesting flashlights I own.
It’s not a cheap flashlight at a suggested retail price of $94 (you can find them most places for under $60), but when you need a flashlight that will stand up to abuse and all your needs the price tag is not that bad. After examining it, you can tell Streamlight put a lot of thought into the design and construction. Read more
How To Field Dress A Deer
Field Dressing a Deer, or any animal, is a very important skill. It is the process of removing the internal organs and skin from the animal. Once this process is completed, the meat can be harvested by butchering the deer. Taking down food is great, but if you don’t know what to do with it once you have it is a pointless death for the animal.

SproutRobot Update: 1st Seeds Came In
My first package of seeds finally came in today. I was actually just about to contact SproutRobot to see if I would ever be getting them.
They came packaged in a standard USPS padded envelope with a letter explaining when to plant and instructions on how to plant the seeds I had received. The seeds were separated in individual small ziplock backs with hand written labels. Each bag contained about 10 seeds. One was Green Beans and the other was Summer Squash
I guess I will actually have to go get some pots and soil now..
The Colony, Season Two – Discovery Channel
The Colony premiers this week on the Discovery Channel.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about last season and am thus hesitant about holding out hopes that this season will be any better. My biggest issue was the stereotypical and unimaginative motorcycle gang. I also felt the show was made overly sensational by introducing to many characters that were “hand-picked” with specialized skills. Will you be building an ozone water purification system when SHTF? Maybe, but not probably.

Review of The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes – and Why
The Unthinkable by Amanda Ripley definitely added to my understanding of how people react in disasters. The writing could be better, but over all it was an interesting book and a decent enough read. Read more

In The Rabbit Hole wishing all a Happy 4th of July. Please take a moment to consider what was risked by our founding fathers and the men and women that gave their all in the Revolutionary War to give us freedom today. Don’t squander their gifts through compliance and complacency.
