E128: Economic Collapse

In this episode, Aaron and Jason discuss a possible economic collapse coming in the future.

Some of you are familiar with what China and Russia are up to. But this episode sheds new light on details and new developments you need to know.

Many of our allies in the world may be turning on us to save their skins. For instance, did you know Japan, Australia, and South Korea recently gave strong indications of joining the AIIB? (China’s most recent attempt to decouple from the US Dollar as a reserve currency and the IMF.) And who can blame them after watching the US take on ever increasing amounts of irresponsible debt and spend wildly?

I was a disappointed on the interjections of spin (my families company, the taker mentality, calling Lady Liberty a crack whore) by the host. Why don’t you let the presenter make his points instead of talking about what we have planned for August. I didn’t hear much on figures and justification of the data, but I certainly heard a lot of whining along the lines of the Us vs Them personal critiques, coming from the hey look at me I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth host. I heard no useful information about hedging or even prepping., just a lot of complaining about the sky is falling and it’s all those poor people’s fault.
I think you are losing touch with your core audience by making such pointless personal examples. If you have a guest why not let him complete his sentence without the mindless interjections. I will search for a better source of enlightenment. I am acutely aware of what’s been happening and it’s still going on petal to the metal. Your podcast is no longer worth my time, much less a contribution

      Howdy Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to comment on the episode. We do appreciate that; regardless of the expressed opinions.

And I say we, because it seems you got something wrong here: I was not interrupting a guest. I was interjecting relevant person accounts to what my CO-HOST Jason was saying. (Some would call this having a conversation. Which, is part of our format… since we started this show 5 years ago.)
Sometimes he makes comments on what I’m presenting. Sometimes I make comments on what he’s saying. That’s how we’ve always done it.

Seems you have your own spin. (Or we hit a personal nerve.) Referring to things I see in the economy based on things I’ve observed in my family’s business doesn’t put a silver spoon in my mouth.

Do you think everyone that owns a business is some evil doer? I didn’t mention a life spent without want, care, pain, or work. As it turns out, I worked full time all through college and paid my parents rent. One of those jobs included hand digging ditches in the Texas summer sun and running electrical conduit. And when I did join the family business after college I did it by bringing them a proposal for an entire business unit I would build myself with a joke of a budget. My employment wasn’t handed to me and I would have been fired like anyone else had I not produced and do it quickly. So you really don’t know a damn thing about me.

But all you heard was reference to a business and immediately thought that must mean a life of luxury. Funny, I’m pretty sure the fact that I work two jobs, not including running this show, has been mentioned several times in past seasons. And on top of that I put in an average of 10 hours a week and a lot of personal money to this site and show. Which, we’ve rarely ever asked anything from the audience for until this episode.

Speaking of which, you probably think we’re making a mint off ITRH given your mindset. The truth is this: ITRH has operated at a eight-to-one loss since we started it. But I keep doing it because I enjoy it and because people say they get real value out of all the work we’ve done here. That’s not to say it’ll never be a profitable business, but for the last 5 years it’s not been. Nor did I really care to worry about it till the costs became more than I was willing to personal bare.

Was the discussion about taker mentalities a surprise to you? That’s funny because my co-hosts and I have never espoused anything other than a belief that there are only two kinds of people in this world: Takes and makers. We don’t begrudge welfare recipients. But we do take exception to those that think it’s owed to them and those that would exist off the handwork of others for all or most of their adult lives.

But that’s not really the point here. The comments where relating in large part to how people would REACT to a economic collapse when the makers aren’t able to feed the system that feeds the takers. We have seen welfare recipients flip out and riot when they’re not given handouts on time. In fact, it’s happened in the last two years.
And we NEVER EVER SAID A DAMN THING about the poor! The two things are not mutually exclusive!

You also mentioned we didn’t offer any solutions, this was a show about awareness; Jason mentioned that repeatedly. He also mentioned this is not a tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year issue. This is a coming down the road as we see it issue. Given the nature of the topic we would be remiss handing out advice at this point. The real point here was awareness.

As for lady liberty being a crack whore, we were referring rather clearly to the 18 trillion dollars in debt this nation has racked up. And if what we said offended anyone enough to have them not want to tune in again then the simple answer is this: They’re not our audience.

Anyway, hope that clears things up. We sincerely wish you safe travels and good luck.
